As a recent (and so far only) graduate (summa con larder) of the FCWC, and as such living proof that its methods are both effective and nutritious, it is perhaps, but only perhaps, proper that I enlighten interested readers as to what those methods are. But before I do so, I should first acknowledge a conflict of interest. Namely that I do not subscribe to the apparent majority (in kilo terms at least) view in FCWC that only Chinatown offers appropriate lunchtime fare. I believe that our collective experience has also been that Maria's Trattoria in Victoria Market caters for the discerning walkers palate, and that Maria' s excellent veal escalope or spaghetti marinara provide additional reasons (as if any were needed!) to fearlessly tread the Melbourne sidewalks and riverbanks.

Be that as it may, I return to to the FCWC's methods and raison d'etre. A key ingredient has been, by means of the FCWC Constitution, to ration attendance at FCWC approved restaurants according to the following formulae:
(a) 5 walks (min 40 minute duration)(each a "walk") = 1 lunch (max 4 courses)("lunch")
(b) Min 10 walks each calendar month
(c) For each walk to qualify (for purposes of lunch), it must be taken within 3 working days of another (qualifying) walk
(d) For each lunch in excess of 4 courses, qualifying walks in (a) increase to 7 for next 3 lunches.

Both Dina and Quirky will, I think, support me in expressing doubt as to whether Pesky (less summiteer more sommelier) has respected these criteria (even pro rata) and anticipate his inevitable defences of "human rights" and "fair go".

When all is said, I owe FCWC a debt. Now, as I now run round the Tan, waving at my old classmates on the Yarra bend, I reflect on the stamina it taught me, including on the footpath.

This weekend marks our 2nd off-site, this time in Tasmania. Pesky says that two heads are better than one and I can only imagine what he has in mind.
